Pet loss and bereavement

Grieving for the loss of a pet, whether through death or enforced separation, can be a very sad and difficult experience. Life, once filled with the love and friendship of a pet, may suddenly seem very empty.

Since the launch of the Pet Bereavement Support Service in 1994, the service has helped thousands of pet owners of all ages. Losing a pet of any kind can be very painful and feelings of despair, loneliness and depression can often be experienced.

Support for pet owners

Support is available for anyone who has lost a pet, or is about to part with a pet, through the Pet Bereavement Support Service run by The Blue Cross and SCAS.

This is a confidential telephone and email support line service offering emotional support and practical information for pet owners and others in contact with pet owners.

Contact 0800 096 6606 (some mobile networks may charge) from 8:30am - 8:30pm, or email pbssmail@bluecross.org.uk.

Pet memorial

Many people find comfort in remembering their pet in a special way. The Blue Cross has a memorial page on their website where pet owners, friends and family members can leave a lasting tribute.
