The Pet Bereavement Support Service relies on a team of dedicated volunteers - called befrienders - who take calls or emails at home from bereaved pet owners. Our volunteers are men and women of all ages, from a wide range of backgrounds.
Since full training is provided we do not require any specific qualifications from our volunteers - what we do look for however, is an understanding of the human-companion animal relationship and a desire to help pet owners who are experiencing the pain of pet bereavement.
All volunteers must undergo a six-month supervised correspondence training programme. Once fully trained, we ask befrienders to commit a minimum of six hours per week to the service.
If you are interested in training to become a telephone befriender for the PBSS please download the volunteer information pack for more details about what is involved and how to apply.
