The international association of human-animal interaction organisations brings together national associations and related organisations interested in advancing the understanding and appreciation of the link between animals and humans. International awards and conferences every three years.

An organisation for the scientific and scholarly study of human-animal interactions. ISAZ is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organisation with a worldwide, multi-disciplinary membership of students, scholars and interested professionals. Produces Anthrozoos journal every quarter.

The HSUS is the USA’s largest animal protection organisation with active programs in companion animals, wildlife and habitat protection, animals in research, and farm animals. A non-profit organisation, the HSUS protects all animals through legislation, litigation, investigation, education, advocacy and field work
Aims to improve human health through service and therapy animals in the USA. Offers training in animal-assisted activity and therapy. Useful publications and articles on many aspects of the human-companion animal bond also available.

Pathway Pets and Housing: Guidelines for Housing Providers (www.dogstrust.org.uk)
Provides guidelines for housing providers on benefits of pet ownership and drawing up pet policies. New guidelines due to be launched in 2007.

Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (www.apbc.org.uk)
International network of qualified and experienced pet behaviour counsellors who treat behaviour problems in dogs, cats, birds, horses and other pets. The site contains a list of counsellors. Must have referral from a vet.
The site also contains a list of training courses in animal behaviour available in the UK.
Offers a wider range of education and training courses on many aspects of animal care, including veterinary nursing, animal behaviour, animal care NVQs and customer care skills

Works to achieve a balanced, regulatory environment for the production of nutritious and safe food. Provides information on pet nutrition, the benefits of pets and pet trends in the UK.
Blue Cross All About Pets (www.allaboutpets.org.uk)
The national pet care information service, provided by The Blue Cross animal welfare charity. It offers an extensive range of leaflets covering many aspects of pet care for dogs, cats, horses and small pets.
