The Society for Companion Animal Studies (SCAS) is a UK-based membership charity dedicated to understanding how interactions between people and companion animals can improve quality of life and well-being.
SCAS works to bring this information to the general public and people working within different professions, in order to positively influence understanding, policy and practice. SCAS provides information, education and training on many aspects of the human-animal bond.
SCAS also runs the Pet Bereavement Support Service in conjunction with The Blue Cross animal welfare charity.
SCAS has worked in partnership with The Blue Cross since 2003.
New training course: Companion animal interventions in therapeutic practice
SCAS has developed a new training course on animal-assisted therapy, one of very few available in the UK. The first course was held this year and the provisional dates for 2009 are 8-11 May (Part 1) and 25-28 September (Part 2). Participants must attend both Part 1 and Part 2. The course provides an exciting opportunity to learn more about animal-assisted therapy and how to include companion animals in therapeutic practice. Places are limited so early booking is recommended. Closing date: 20 April 2009.
