The Pets For Life project

Support

The Pets for Life Campaign has secured cross-parliamentary party support with the most recent activity being centred around a Private Members Bill led by Nigel Waterson MP. The bill called for housing providers to implement responsible pet policies and SCAS was actively involved in composing the bill.

This issue is not restricted to the UK with academics and politicians across the world campaigning for similar changes. Most recently Barbro Westerholm, Member of the Swedish Parliament, highlighted the cause at the International Association of Human-Animal Interaction Organisations (IAHAIO) conference in July 2010. You can download Barbro Westerholm's speech online.

Barbro Westerholm is a Swedish Liberal People's Party politician. As a member of the Riksdag, the national legislative assembly of Sweden she was awarded the Nordic Public Health Prize in 2009 for her work to fight discrimination against the elderly.

SCAS is committed to ensuring that this issue remains on the UK's social and political agenda by continuing to lobby Parliament and work alongside both animal welfare and human health organisations.

Can you help?

Are you or a member of your family concerned about the future of your pet as you consider a move into alternative accommodation? Have you had to give up a beloved pet in order to move? Perhaps you are currently living in a supported setting and miss the company of animals...or you may be living independently and looking for assistance to ensure you can continue to care for your pet? Whatever your situation, SCAS would like to hear from you
