Old manor in a new way

The beauty of ancient family castles and family estates with a centuries-old history will never go out of fashion, since it is the strength, stability and inviolability of family values, identified with the concept of home. Most of our contemporaries, starting their own construction of cottages, country houses, dream that their households, over time, turn into a "family nest", a place where children return, where grandchildren grow up and which will be reverently loved by all households. However, it is possible to create a feeling of “the father’s house”, with long traditions and history that left their marks on the facades, in the newly rebuilt house.

Naturally, the course towards the creation of antiquity must be taken at the design stage. A well-chosen architectural project, taking into account the features of the simulated era, will greatly facilitate the task and reduce the number of decorating techniques, and hence the cost of construction. If the house has already been built, you can age it by thoughtful facade work. From the arsenal of restorers, designers got such means as patinated facing bricks, plaster, varnishes and paints with a facet (self-cracking) effect. Having processed the new facade with such means, you can get a building with a noble aged appearance and all the advantages of modern building materials.

A significant role in the overall impression of the house is played by the design of the infield. Here you can reproduce a neat landscape in the best traditions of any historical era, or you can create the effect of abandonment, with a riot of seasonal vegetation and grass-covered paths, in the manner of an English kindergarten.

One of the most common problems in a modern old manor is the choice of a gate. At first glance, it is limited to traditional swing structures made of wood or forged metal, but this is not so. Today, you can easily order a sectional automatic garage door for yourself, for example, which will look like a bronze or brass relief, covered with a patina or an image carved on stone.

This technique is called embossed decor and is performed on any basic coating of panels with the help of special compositions, when hardening which an exact copy of metal casting appears, with similar physical and tactile properties, but weighing significantly less. The image will consist of individual fragments assembled together, the joints between which are masked with colored silicone. The richness of images, patterns and ornaments allows you to enter such a gate in any style, both ancient and modern.

Manufacturing fences in an old form is quite an entertaining activity, which you can try to do on your own. For this purpose, you will need any fence made of wood and paint in two colors. The first layer is applied with a darker paint, allowed to dry and then the second layer is applied with light paint, wait a few minutes, and then fragments of the upper stained layer are wiped with a rag soaked in water. The result is an archaic fence over which the wind and rains “worked” for years, washing off the paint. By the same principle, it is possible to “wash off” part of the plaster on a stone fence. This method of aging is most appropriate for country style, Provencal manor or Russian estate. If the process is carried out thoroughly, then the same patinated facing brick is suitable for stone fencing, and alternative methods of aging natural wood can be borrowed from designers. Pitchme
