Major breakthrough for ‘Pets in Housing’ in the UK!

We are excited to announce that private tenants in the UK will soon have a right to keep a pet, and landlords will be able to ask for pet damage insurance. This is a win-win for the #HeadsForTails campaign in terms of the proposed changes appeasing both tenants AND landlords.

Government Proposals led by Housing Secretary Michael Gove will bring a long-anticipated end to blanket bans on pets in private rental accommodations. The government has released what it called the Fairer Private Rented Sector White Paper, which includes reforms stating that landlords must consider and cannot unreasonably refuse pets.

While change might not come quickly enough, the wheels are finally in motion! SCAS will continue to support AdvoCATS in their tireless campaign to keep people and pets together and ensure the issue maintains its new found position on the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) agenda.
